Professor William D Aiken will on Saturday (June 28) be installed as District Governor for Rotary International District 7020 at a ceremony at The UWI Regional Headquarters on Mona Road, St Andrew.
Professor Aiken is head of the Department of Surgery, Radiology, Anaesthesia & Intensive Care, and Emergency Medicine, at the Mona Campus of The University of the West Indies.

Rotary International District 7020 is comprised of clubs in10 countries and territories in the Northern Caribbean, covering a diverse and vibrant array of a communities, where Rotarians have committed to “Service Above Self”.
District 7020 covers clubs in Anguilla, The Bahamas, St. Barthelemy, The Cayman Islands, The British Virgin Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, The US Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, St. Martin and St. Maarten.  The district has 91 Rotary Clubs and 46 Rotaract Clubs, with 2,666 members.

Interact clubs in high schools and EarlyAct clubs in primary and preparatory schools are also part of the Rotary family.

The district governor assumes office at the start of the Rotary year on July 1 and is responsible for visiting all Rotary clubs in the district, ideally within the first six months of the Rotary year. The DG is the chief executive officer of a district, and his/her primary role is to motivate, inspire, support, and guide clubs in the attainment of the organisation’s mission and strategic imperatives which primarily support education, health, community development, and the protection and sustainability of the environment.

Past district governors from Jamaica included Mr. Michael Fennell; Mr. Alvaro Casserly; Dr. Paul Brown, retired general surgeon and former senior medical officer at the Spanish Town Hospital; Dr. Patrick Adizua, obstetrician and gynaecologist at Mandeville Regional Hospital; Mr. Errol Alberga, noted Jamaican architect; and Mr. Haresh Ramchandani, noted real estate developer from Montego Bay, St James.
